"Faust" and "The Scarlet Princess" return to the stage in May

The "Radu Stanca" National Theater of Sibiu (TNRS) resumes, from May, the performances of the shows "Faust" and "The Scarlet Princess", directed by Silviu Purcărete, some of the most appreciated Romanian shows of the last decades. The Sibiu national team has already put tickets on sale for the performances in May, June and July, both on the website www.tnrs.ro and at the Theater Agency in Sibiu, Nicolae Bălcescu street no. 17.

"Faust", after J. W. Goethe, directed by Silviu Purcărete, translated by St. A. Doinaş, set and light design by Helmut Stürmer, costumes by Lia Manţoc and original music by Vasile Şirli, with Ofelia Popii and Miklós Bács in the main roles, premiered in 2007, and since then until the present moment it has been a sold-out performance every time.

The script of the performance in Sibiu captures the essential moments from Goethe's text: Faust's pact with the Devil, Faust's passion for Margaret, the Walpurgis night and Faust's ascension to Heaven. The production stands out for its set and light design with an impressively evocative force, provocatively suggestive, elegant or burlesque costumes, exciting or overwhelming music with sound effects appropriate to the tightrope walker atmosphere, video projections ingeniously articulated in the architecture of the entire scenic approach, created monumentally by the play of over 120 actors in a disused industrial hall.

The show was awarded at the 2008 UNITER Awards Gala for Best Actress in a leading role – Ofelia Popii, participated in the Goethe Festival in Frankfurt in 2008 and in the Edinburgh International Theater Festival in 2009 in the official selection, received the Herald Angel Award 2009 and the Excellence Award at the 2010 UNITER Awards Gala.

TNRS resumes performances of the show "The Scarlet Princess", script by Silviu Purcărete inspired by the Sakura Hime Azuma Bunshô, by Tsuruya Nanboku IV, directed by Silviu Purcărete, translation by Eugen Gyemant, original music by Vasile Şirli, scenography by Dragoş Buhagiar, the second great heritage performance of the National Theater in Sibiu.

"The Scarlet Princess" is a performance which was awarded the UNITER Award for Best 2018 Show in Romania, Best Actress in the main role for the roles of Seigen and Shinnobu Sota - Ofelia Popii, and Best Set Design - Dragoș Buhagiar.

Also, the "Radu Stanca" National Theater of Sibiu has put on sale tickets for all the performances in May, June and July, scheduled at the TNRS Great Hall, Fabrica de Cultură / Culture Factory - Construcții SA - UniCredit, Studio Hall, Habitus Cultural Center and at the Great Synagogue.
