This Radu Stanca National Theatre performance is a sparkling comedy, with unexpected situational twists. Based on an apparently simple recipe, Şerban Puiu’s work is remarkable through the almost mechanical precision of the scenes’ development, focusing on the actor in a very strong manner.
Get Them, Devil! is an adaptation of Out of Order by the English playwright Ray Cooney, for which he was distinguished with the Olivier Award for the Best Comedy of the Year 2001.
Decorated Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2005, Ray Cooney is considered one of the most important British authors of comedy, being often compared to Georges Feydeau, author of A Flea in Her Ear.
The action of the play develops in a London’s hotel, where Minister Richard Willy secretly meets the secretary of the opposition leader, while he should have attended an important parliamentary session. The situation becomes more complicated, as they discover a man’s corpse in their room. Since reporting this situation would bring their adultery relation to light, the protagonists decide to hide the body. Their plans will soon turn upside down, as other characters intervene and fill the scene with amusement and thrill.
