Eight young actors (Iustinian Turcu, Ștefan Tunsoiu, Antonia Dobocan, Radu Costea, Crina Dumitrașcu, Ada Bicfalvi, David Cristian, Oana Noja) led by a debutant director (Tudor Licu) present an anthology-performance, composed of the writings of six authors (Cosmin Stănilă, Alex Mircioi, Mădălina Stoica, Daria Ancuța, Tudor Licu, Carla Oncescu), part of the youngest generation of Romanian playwrights.
Each script imagines a possible end of humanity, exploring the impact of the direction the world is heading in on the direction of our lives.
“The Last Generation” is the revolt of young people against a world in decline, revolt as a manifesto, as a creative act of possible new realities.
“What you will see below are the nightmares of our generation, metaphors that tend to become realities in the absence of concrete collective action”, says director Tudor Licu.

Tudor Licu:
I am haunted by the thought that we are closer than ever to extinction. I feel that in the last four years we have witnessed more historical events than we thought we would experience in a lifetime and that each new day could begin with the notification of a new cataclysm, a new war, a new “intrigue” in the story of humanity that forcibly advances the narrative thread towards an inevitable end. I do not exclude the possibility that this is strictly paranoia and the reflection of a personal crisis, but whatever the truth, I have noticed that the Apocalypse is a theme that resonates with many artists of our generation. For this reason, I have chosen to coordinate the creation of an anthology of scenes on this theme, through which I want to offer the opportunity to as many people as possible to express their dramatic “scream” against a world in decline. “The Last Generation” represents the manifesto of a new generation of playwrights who believe that theatre has both the power and the obligation to confront the audience with the possible consequences of their own ignorance. To awaken. To urge action. To change, at any cost, the direction we are heading.

The production is part of the Manifesto for Dialogue program, through which the Sibiu National Theatre offered talented young directors the chance to debut on stage.

The program aims, on the one hand, to encourage critical thinking by addressing important themes that are too little discussed in the Romanian theatrical landscape and, on the other hand, to contribute to the development of a new audience, an active, involved audience that, together with the artists, triggers and supports a lively debate.
