"Baroque Twilight" street parade in six localities in Sibiu County in September

A project realized by ULBS and Masca Foundation, with the support of JTI, in partnership with TNRS and co-funded by Sibiu County Council

The street parade "Baroque Twilight", part of the "Heritage" project, initiated by the master Mihai Mălaimare, will be presented to the public in six localities of Sibiu County in September. The project is produced by the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu and the Masca Foundation, with the support of JTI, in partnership with the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre in Sibiu.
Impressive period costumes, poet Radu Stanca's verses, voices and instruments, allegorical figures, together with countless original artistic elements are included in the performance by the students of the Drama and Theatre Studies Department of the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu.
"Baroque Twilight" will be presented on September 5, at 7 PM, in Săliște; on September 8, at 6:30 PM, in Racovița; on September 15, at 12:30 PM in Avrig; on September 20, at 6 PM, in Biertan; on September 21, at 5:50 PM, in Agnita; and on September 27, at 5:30 PM, in Cisnădie.
On a splendid avenue of memories, the poet Radu Stanca unfolds his experiences, surrounded by the splendour of costumes straight from the 18th century, the century of the Transylvanian Baroque. In the rhythm of dances specific to that period, which transform the street into a huge ballroom, the characters compete for the poet's imagination. The show ends with a toast to love, and a ballad dedicated to the splendid city of Sibiu.
"Bringing the magic of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival closer to the communities of Sibiu County is one of the reasons why we are partners in this special event every year. Promoting culture in small urban or rural areas plays an essential role in educating the younger generation, in preserving traditions, values and identity of local communities. At the same time, culture is not only about customs and crafts passed down from generation to generation, but also a source of social cohesion and belonging, and such cultural events manage to strengthen community ties and pass on their unique heritage. I would like to thank our FITS partners and especially Maestro Constantin Chiriac, who accepted our challenge, and now a unique show will be performed in six communities. I invite you, dear citizens of Sibiu, to be part of this initiative and, in addition to the beauties offered by the surroundings of Sibiu County, to savour an exceptional artistic moment", said Daniela Cîmpean, President of Sibiu County Council.
"It is a real joy to see how many opportunities Sibiu enjoys when it comes to access to culture and quality performances. The "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu and the Masca Foundation, led by Mihai Mălaimare, in collaboration with the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre, are creating an opportunity for the people of Sibiu to remember the famous century of Transylvanian Baroque. The main reason why I, as Minister of Culture, gave a hand in the realization of this project is that it brings theatre to the streets, and makes it accessible to those who do not frequently attend theatre performances.
Thanks to the involvement of Sibiu County Council, this year the theatre is also reaching people in communities that do not enjoy the same cultural abundance as the city. In September, the streets of Săliște, Racovița, Avrig, Biertan, Agnita and Cisnădie will be transformed into a huge dance hall. I congratulate the coordinators of this innovative project, Mrs. Luminița Bârsan and Maestro Constantin Chiriac. I am convinced that the whole county of Sibiu will welcome this initiative with open arms!" - Raluca Turcan, Minister of Culture of Romania.
"Baroque Twilight" premiered on May 30, enjoyed success at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival 2024, and during this summer was presented in Sibiu, Făgăraș and other locations in the country.
The project is co-funded by Sibiu County Council through a partnership between the National Theatre "Radu Stanca" Sibiu and the County Council.
