Four TNRS Productions Selected for the National Theatre Festival, Produced by UNITER

Four of the most recent productions of the Radu Stanca National Theatre Sibiu have been selected to take part in the 35th edition of the National Theatre Festival (FNT), produced by UNITER – the Romanian Theatre Union. The festival will take place in Bucharest between October 17 and 26, 2025.

“We are at the end of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, an edition in which venues were filled to capacity by theatre lovers eager to discover international and national productions, as well as performances by the Radu Stanca National Theatre. The selection of four of our productions in this year’s National Theatre Festival program is yet another confirmation of the value that TNRS consistently cultivates. The 2025 FNT selection includes productions signed by Silviu Purcărete and Timofey Kulyabin—among the most highly regarded European directors today—as well as by Eugen Jebeleanu and Hunor Horvath, both recognized for their distinctive artistic vision”, said Constantin Chiriac, General Manager of the Radu Stanca National Theatre Sibiu and President of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival.

The four TNRS productions included in the FNT 2025 program are:

It’s Only the End of the World by Jean-Luc Lagarce, directed by Eugen Jebeleanu; set design by Oana Micu; original music and video by Ovidiu Zimcea; lighting design by Cristian Niculescu; choreography by Malena Silberschmidt.

Iona by Marin Sorescu, directed by Silviu Purcărete; literary translation from Romanian into Japanese by Mayo Nishiike and Florin Grancea; dramaturgy by Durian Sukegawa; original music by Vasile Șirli; set design and lighting design by Dragoș Buhagiar; a co-production of the Radu Stanca National Theatre Sibiu and the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, Japan.

Long Day’s Journey into Night, a stage adaptation by Roman Doljanski after Eugene O’Neill; translation by Raluca Rădulescu; directed by Timofey Kulyabin; set design by Oleg Golovko; music by Timofey Pastukhov; lighting design by Ilia Pașnin.

Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca, directed by Hunor Horvath; film direction by Adrian Sitaru; set design by Elöd Golicza; costumes by Zsofia Gabor; choreography by Árpád Könczei; original music by Andrei Dinescu; lighting design by Cristian Niculescu; video design by Dan Basu.

The curatorial team of the National Theatre Festival consists of Raluca Cîrciumaru (theatre critic), Alina Epîngeac (theatre critic), and Ionuț Sociu (playwright and cultural journalist).

FNT is a strategic cultural project funded by the Ministry of Culture.
