An empty stage. No set. No directing. Just ten actors looking for an idea for a performance. Who will start? What should be the purpose of the next production? How can you transform your own life into a play? The HOPE Project proposes a journey into the creative lab of actors who, through their work with themselves, can transform their life stories into a real performance.
“In 2021, eight actors come up on stage to discuss hope, its sources, and its forms in these strange times. The transition to characters, to universal dramatugy is smooth, other times, abrupt. It’s a pirandellian exercise of questioning the self. At one point, things get serious, there’s no playing, and the stage abounds with the absence of those who are no longer with us. In the meantime, we laugh and talk about cartoon characters, we mock theatre clichés, and we ourselves fall for them. I will say no more; it’s a performance you simply live. For me, it was a long-overdue drama exercise. The HOPE Project 2021.” – Bogdan Sărătean, director.
