This has been confirmed by the awards received and by its international tours, including Ofelia Popii – Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Helmut Stürmer – Award for Best Set Design, UNITER Awards Gala 2008, Participation in the Goethe Festival in Frankfurt (2008) and the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival (2009, official selection), Ofelia Popii – Herald Angel Award 2009, Excellence Award – UNITER Awards Gala 2010
Faust is more than a theatre performance. Emotional and visceral, it invites the audience to a powerful experience about knowledge, faith, suffering, and love. Silviu Purcărete’s Faust stands out through the complexity of its directorial vision: an extrasensory experience on the border between Earth and Hell, enhanced by projections, live rock music, dozens of actors and dancers, and an original soundtrack composed by Vasile Șirli.
At the core of this modern Faust lies improvisation, with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s text serving as the starting point for an exceptional theatrical composition. The Sibiu production captures the essential moments of Goethe’s work: Faust’s pact with the Devil, his passion for Margareta, Walpurgis Night, and Faust’s ascent to Heaven.
The production is remarkable for its evocative set and lighting design, striking—elegant or burlesque— costumes engaging or overwhelming music with sound effects tailored to the acrobatic atmosphere, ingeniously integrated video projections, and its monumental scale, created through the performance of over 120 actors in a decommissioned industrial hall.
