February Premieres on the Digital Stage: Theatre, Music, and Film from Romania and Brazil

The Digital Stage, the online platform for theatre, film, music, circus, and dance of the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu (TNRS) and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), presents three premiere productions in February, offering audiences theatre, a live concert, and contemporary cinema.

“In February, on the Digital Stage, audiences will be able to enjoy three special premieres: the performance ‘Iona,’ the concert ‘Briza din Est’ by Mara Halunga, and the anthology film ‘Nesupusele.’

‘Iona’ by Marin Sorescu, directed by Silviu Purcărete, is a production that has enjoyed remarkable success from its very first encounters with audiences and has had an impressive international journey. The production was first presented with Kuranosuke Sasaki in the leading role, and later continued with Adrian Matioc.

At the same time, we are pleased to offer online audiences two performances presented within FITS 2025, as part of the selection that brings exceptional productions and artistic encounters from Romania and around the world to the Digital Stage.” – Constantin Chiriac, General Manager of TNRS and President of FITS.

The February premieres are:

1. Iona by Marin Sorescu, directed by Silviu Purcărete

One of the most important works of Romanian dramaturgy, ‘Iona’ by Marin Sorescu returns in a production directed by Silviu Purcărete, starring Adrian Matioc in the leading role, as part of a project with a strong intercultural dimension. The performance offers a highly refined scenic experience, in which spirituality, nature, and the human condition meet in a poetic and deeply moving form, inviting audiences from around the world to a profound and universal communion.

2. “Briza din Est” – a performance by Mara Halunga

The concert of singer and composer Mara Halunga brings to the Digital Stage the melodic richness and vibrant spirit of Brazil, in an artistic encounter infused with Romanian influences. The performance, titled ‘Vento Leste,’ creates a bridge between two worlds through the artist’s voice, the guitar of Cauê De Marinis, and the piano of Alexandru Olteanu.

3. “Nesupusele,” directed by Carol Benjamin, Ana do Carmo, Julia Katharine, Luh Maza, Taís Amordivino – Daza Filmes

‘Nesupusele’ is an anthology feature film that brings together four short films made in 2024 by directors from underrepresented groups in the Brazilian film industry. Inspired by literary short stories written by Brazilian women at the end of the 19th century, these works explore themes such as death, healing, marriage, desire, and freedom, in an emotionally powerful artistic endeavor.
