"Woyzeck" is staged in Timisoara as part of Theatre Connection

The performance of the German section of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre in Sibiu (TNRS), "Woyzeck" is presented on October 2 in Timisoara as part of the Theatre Connection / theatre that unites us. "Woyzeck" received the UNITER Award in 2024 for light design by Michael Bischoff and was nominated for Best Director - Hunor Horváth and Edith Buttingsrud Pedersen.
The show will be presented at 7.30 PM, at the Regional Business Centre in Timisoara, CRAFT (Bulevardul Eroilor de la Tisa, no. 22). The TNRS production questions the conditions in which violence is born. The audience of this production - nominated for this year's UNITER award for best direction - is invited to witness the human tragedy of a society heading towards self-destruction, and the means to find salvation require a total change of mentality. The performance is in German with translation into Romanian and English.
The idea of an exchange between the two German-language theatres in Romania, the German State Theatre of Timișoara and the German Section of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre, is based on an old tradition of the two German-language theatres in Romania, which was supported by the Forum of Banat and Transylvania. The general directors of the two cultural institutions, Constantin Chiriac and Lucian Vărșăndan, have set out to revive this tradition. This year, the German State Theatre of Timișoara's "TSCHICK. Why I stole the car" by Wolfgang Herrndorf, directed by Irisz Kovacs, nominated at the UNITER for best direction, was presented at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival.
The TNRS show is a questioning of the conditions in which violence is born. Wozyeck is an illegitimate father, a humiliated subordinate, the subject of a medical experiment, a victim, a perpetrator, a good person, and Maria's murderer. The audience is invited to witness the human tragedy of a society heading towards self-destruction, and the means to find salvation through a total change of mentality.
