Voices of Solidarity

In 2018, the „Radu Stanca” National Theatre became a partner in a new European project, Voices of Solidarity (VOICES), alongside: ArtReach LTD - project coordinator – Museo dei Bambini Rome, CESIE Palermo and Altonale GmbH Hamburg. This project was co-financed through the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The initiative set out to highlight the importance and the challenges of obtaining freedom and integration for refugees in host communities, in the context of the European Union being faced with unique situations and challenges. The „Radu Stanca” National Theatre produced a performance as part of the project – choreography and concept: Adriana Bârză-Cârstea, graphic artist: Dan Perjovschi, music: Claudiu Urse, theatre-dance: Diana Fufezan and Ali Deac.

Migration is one of the biggest problems contemporary society faces, both on a global level, but above all in the European space. The manner in which people, institutions, states respond to this problem, defines us. By means of his drawings, artist Dan Perjovschi reflects this controversial topic, with empathy and accuracy. In the performance Behind the Wall, one encounters elements pertaining to urban art, theatre, dance, music; these underline the necessity of debate and understanding the problematic of refugees in Europe on a social level – by means of drawings encompassing social commentary – and individually – by means of short monologues transposed to movement by the two dance-actors. These non-verbal monologues are based on thoughts, ideas, feelings and mental states, taken from interviews with refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and Romania.
