The “Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu will participate in the International Antalya Theater Festival in Turkey, where it will present the performance “Electra”, directed by Mihai Măniuțiu, as part of an international tour supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute. The performances are scheduled for May 13 and 14, 2026, at 8:00 PM, at the Antalya State Opera and Ballet.
“Electra is a performance that carries within it the soul of an ancient and fragile world, brought today before international audiences through an extraordinary encounter between great Greek tragedy and the living songs of Maramureș. We are delighted to bring to Antalya this creation that is profoundly Romanian and universal at the same time,” said Constantin Chiriac, General Director of TNRS and President of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival.
Based on texts by Sophocles and Euripides, the performance offers a deeply contemporary stage vision of the ancient myth, creating a powerful dialogue between Greek tragedy and the traditional music of Maramureș, performed live by the Iza Group.
The performance “Electra” represented Romania at last year’s World Expo in Japan. After watching the production, the Commissioner General of Expo 2025 Osaka, Koji Haneda, stated in an interview broadcast by the Japanese public television network NHK that he had never seen a queue of nearly 5 kilometers of spectators waiting to obtain a ticket. He declared that “Electra” was, in his opinion, the deepest, most moving, and most representative performance presented throughout the entire World Expo in Japan.
